Who am I anyway?
I’m Rob.
I started my career in the 90’s as a photographer, initially doing the whole weddings and schools thing but soon found my love for product photography and image editing. This evolved over time into 3D animation and visual effects, often taking on the role of shooting plates and working across the entire production pipeline.
I’ve worked at many places, including Games Workshop, where I ran the photo studio, Pariah Studios, as creative Director and Engine Creative, where I was senior 3D producer.
I’ve worked on countless projects for some amazing clients, from Ministry of Sound, HMV, Hardcore Til I die, Viking/Staples and many more. This covered photography, 3D animation for TVCs, motion graphics and visual effects work, as well as colour grading and audio production. I’m a believer in audio being key to any visual’s success and have a degree in commercial sound production.
I’ve written features, reviews and training for many industry magazines and web sites, including Digital Camera World, 3D World (Of which I’ve now been editor for over a decade), 3D Total and many others. I’ve presented at filmmaking and VFX events from View Conference and FMX, to Siggraph and Vertex.
I really enjoy sharing my experience and knowledge and have produce many videos, some on my YouTube channel, others for various magazines and also some in-depth courses in the Making it Look great series. Much more of these to come, so do check my channel and subscribe!
When not wrapped up in these projects I like to get my hands messy and covered in sawdust carving custom guitars, or playing, writing, and producing music in my side project The Oysterhouse Boys.
